Chistochina Language Lessons
The first edition of the Chistochina Ahtna Language Lessons (2000) was based on the Tanacross Basic Lessons publication from the Yukon Native Language Centre (YNLC). This second edition of the Chistochina Ahtna Language Lessons (2009) was reorganized, re-recorded, translated, and transcribed, by linguist, John Ritter, the YNLC founding director.
Chistochina Listening Exercises
Chistochina Ahtna Listening Exercises for the Upper Ahtna dialect is a new title in the MSTC Ahtna Language Series. All titles in the Series use James Kari’s dictionaries (1975 and 1990) and the Alaska Native Language Center’s Ahtna writing system. This text featured the collaboration of speaker, Lena Charley working with linguist, John Ritter, the founding director of the Yukon Native Language Centre.
Chistochina Advanced Reader
Chistochina Ahtna Advanced Reader for the Upper Ahtna dialect is a new title in the MSTC Ahtna Language Series. Lena’s two Talking Book stories invoke memories of her own life. The first story about a little boy and his family’s daily routine features the name of her first great-grandson, Bjorn Beeter. The second story about a child with his family in fish camp includes lots of detail and new vocabulary.
Mentasta Language Lessons
This second edition of the Mentasta Ahtna Language Lessons (2009) was re-recorded by Cynthea Ainsworth and transcribed by linguist, John Ritter, the YNLC founding director. The featured Ahtna language speaker in this volume is Elder, Katie John. Born in 1915, Katie was raised by her parents Sarah and Chief Sanford Charley in the historic villages of Batzulnetas and Suslota, located near the Nabesna Road in Alaska’s eastern, south-central region. By 1932, Katie married Chief Fred John of Mentasta.

Mentasta Ahtna Listening Exercises for the Upper Ahtna dialect is a new title in the MSTC Ahtna Language Series. This text featured the collaboration of speaker, Katie John, working with linguist, John Ritter, the founding director of the Yukon Native Language Centre (YNLC). eachers or independent learners will notice that the lessons are organized with a list of 6 words or phrases that represent the target sounds for practice and a list of sentences demonstrating the target sounds in more realistic speech.

Mentasta Ahtna Advanced Reader for the Upper Ahtna dialect is a new title in the MSTC Ahtna Language Series. Katie’s two Talking Book stories, recorded with linguist, John Ritter, invoke memories of her own life. The first story about a little boy and his family’s daily routine is similar to how Katie and her husband, Chief Fred John, raised their large family fifty years ago. The second story about a child with his family in fish camp is named after the fishing village of Batzulnetas, where Katie grew up from 1915 to 1932.
